Late Already?

The emissions from fuel burning remain in the atmosphere for long periods - anything from decades to thousands of years, depending on the gas.

This means that we do not know how much irreversible damage we have already done and that, even if we manage to make substantial emissions reductions, it may be a very long time before the climate becomes safer for future generations. This makes it even more urgent to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
